1963 1010 Special Empty
PostSubject: 1963 1010 Special   1963 1010 Special EmptyMon Mar 04, 2013 1:24 am

Well after a long journey I have finally gotten my grandfathers 1963 1010 Special. He died about 9 years ago and I have been fighting tooth and nail to get the tractor away from the idiots in my family so that I can completely restore it and have it as the one thing that my grandfather loved the most. I have started to look into some of the small issues the tractor had and the one biggest problem is with the manual steering gear box. I opened it up to find that it is completely shot. The plate on the steering shaft itself with the two studs is completely gone and the worm gear has about 2 good full turns worth of slack. Also one of the ears on the steering pedestal that holds the entire gear box in place is broken off and the box is only being held by one bolt. Guys I am in serious need of some parts to repair the steering on my prized possession. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also got the original 246 lister planters with fert. buckets to restore and go with the tractor as well.

Hi there welcome to the forums, Ebay has had a tone of parts for the 1010 as a person up there is in the process of scraping two old 1010 tractors. Should be some good parts up there, used but should be in somewhat good condition. also when I last check with a Dealership when I was looking for parts I think they did have some steering parts still in stock around the country, but think they were for the early models, not sure if they would fit a 63, Ill see what I info I can dig up on the parts.

Thanks so much for the fast response my serial number is RUS32189 and from what I have found on John Deere parts all the steering systems were pretty much the same so I really just need to try and find someone that is parting a 1010 out and still has the steering gearbox
