Water Pump Empty
PostSubject: Water Pump   Water Pump EmptySun Jul 21, 2013 3:12 pm

My 1965 RUS have had a love hate relationship over the past several years. It has become a labor of love after bringing her back to life. She is a survivor for sure.

I had an ignition problem that was solved by replacing the point this morning. She fired right up and seemed ready to work. That was until she got really hot. I noticed antifreeze blowing from the fan area. I shut her down and noticed coolant pouring from behind the fan hub. I guess the seals blew in the water pump.

After about 3 hours and a lot of busted knuckles, I got the old water pump out. This was not an easy task since I think it is the original pump.

The reason for the post is for suggestions, new or rebuild the old. I have found new ones for around $130-210. That's seems like a lot for what it is.

Can you rebuild these water pumps. I cannot figure out how to disassemble?? Are there rebuild kits out there?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it’s a new old stock pump it’s worth the price for a new one, but if your just looking to rebuild then there does seem to be a seal and a seal kit available from the john Deere parts website,
not sure of the price but any local john deere dealership should be able to order the parts and seals, shipping may take a week or two.

at a quick glance it looks like you need number 7 or 5, but since you have it off, now might be a good time to rebuild the whole pump.
