1010 Special Question Empty
PostSubject: 1010 Special Question   1010 Special Question EmptyThu Jun 04, 2015 11:37 am

Hello,
I am new to the forum and currently do not own a 1010, nor do I know much about them. I have or have had several other old 2 cylinder JD tractors & crawlers (40, 420, 430, 440).
I recently came across a JD 310-M side mount sickle mower that I was told came off a 1010. According to the 310-M parts book and the mounting brackets I have, it looks like this mower was for a 1010W. I know where there are both a 1010W and a 1010 Special for sale locally. To be honest I am more interested in the Special than the W. Does anyone know if this mower will correctly mount on a Special? Or is it only for a W? I would hate to purchase the Special only to have it not work.

Thanks in advance for any help!!
Dave

Another question that might help me out is the mower manual has instructions for mounting on a "1010 Wheel, 1010 Turf & 1010 Highway Mower tractors". I see JD made 1010's in the following configurations: RU, U, RS, R, O, RUS & W. I am not sure which is "Wheel, Turf & Highway Mower". Anyone know for sure?

I don't know what or if there is much of a physical difference between a 1010 W and a 1010 Special. It doesn't look like much in the photos I've seen. Is this a photo of the mower you want to mount?1010 Special Question A138924

As far as I can tell yes, that's it.
Here is what I have learned today, according to the mower parts book there are two different rear mounting brackets for different types of 1010. One mounts to the bottom edge of the final drive the other mounts directly to the rear axle. The mounting brackets I have mount to a final drive, not the axle.
I went and looked at a 1010 today. (Model HA115-G, Serial Number 115G-3H20198) This particular tractor would require the mounting bracket be mounted directly to the axle, as there is no final drive out by the wheel, but rather it is up against the transmission housing. So, whatever type of 1010 this was, it is not the type my mower came off of.
